What Does it Mean to be a Leader?

Leadership is about living a life of purpose, influence, impact, and joy, and helping others do the same. It is not only about high office and centres of power. Every individual has the capacity to lead, whether they are guiding themselves, others, organisations, or whole communities.

In today’s complex and divided world, effective leadership requires more than technical competence.

Leaders are expected to demonstrate purpose and high levels of emotional intelligence, along with the delivery of results. Successful organisations invest in developing the leadership skills of their people at all levels.

To lead effectively, you must inspire and motivate others around a shared purpose.

Ready to lead with purpose?

Are You a Leader? Ask Yourself These Questions:

Do you want to live a fulfilling life, prioritising what matters most? Are you committed to personal development and growth? You are leading yourself.

Are you responsible for others’ tasks, motivation or development at work? Do people look to you for support or direction? You are leading others.

Are you accountable for business direction, goals or strategy? Are you answerable for performance measures? You are leading an organisation.

Do you drive innovation, such as technology, product or markets? Do you have a growth mindset, take risks, share knowledge? You are leading your sector.

Our Leadership programmes will build your confidence and capability, helping to align your personal and organisational purpose. When these are in sync, leadership becomes more enjoyable, more joined up, and more effective.

Our Leadership Development Principles

Our Leadership Development and Management Skills programmes are designed around some key principles. These principles foster purposeful leadership, a collaborative culture, and clear accountability within organisations.

Visionary Leadership

Future leaders must be able to create a compelling vision while fostering an inclusive, coaching-oriented culture.

Leadership of Service

We encourage leaders to recognise their impact, personally and collectively, to be mindful of all stakeholders, and the wider community.

Open & Honest Learning

Participants commit to their own and others’ growth in an atmosphere of honesty, positive disagreement, and collaborative learning.

Excellence & Possibility

We promote a mindset of positivity and strengths-based development, encouraging leaders to develop an environment of excellence.

Adaptability & Flexibility

Change is emergent, and participants are encouraged to embrace vulnerability, adaptability, and openness, as they evolve as leaders.

What You Will Learn

We have a proven leadership skills programme called Leading with Purpose. This equips directors and managers with the tools to lead their teams with vision, intelligence, empathy, and stewardship. It will enable you to address the specific challenges and ambiguities of leading in a complex world which can feel both exciting, and fearful for teams.

You will develop awareness, knowledge, and skills around four interlinked systems and participants are encouraged to set their own development goals. The systems include:

  • Leading Self: Developing personal growth, self-awareness, emotional, and relational intelligence.
  • Leading Others: Enhancing leadership skills, practising new techniques, and motivating those around you.
  • Leading the Organisation: Implementing a shared vision and fostering effective teamwork within senior leadership.
  • Leading the Sector: Creating strategies that align external impact and organisational purpose.

Programme Structure

The course blends theory and practice, providing you with useful tools to enhance your leadership capabilities. Through interactive discussions, group work, and practical exercises, you will broaden your understanding of leadership and management.

Courses are modular, building on each other over a period of 3-12 months and our most popular modules recently have been:
